Mortgage Nerds Joins NEXA Lending, Keeping Its Own Brand
The VA-focused team led by Mike Cox and Brian Hofmann chose NEXA after an 18-month search, and will continue operating under its own name.

Mortgage Nerds, LLC (NMLS #1946237), the mortgage team led by Mike Cox and Brian Hofmann, has joined NEXA Lending. According to NEXA’s announcement, the team evaluated its options over roughly 18 months before selecting NEXA, citing the platform, its economics, servicing opportunities, and the ability for its loan officers to build additional revenue streams. Deal terms were not disclosed.
Mortgage Nerds keeps its brand
Under the arrangement, Mortgage Nerds retains its name and identity while operating on NEXA’s platform. The structure mirrors NEXA’s approach in its acquisition of UMortgage in August 2026, where teams were permitted to continue using their existing brands. In its announcement, NEXA framed the model as allowing established teams to grow without giving up what they had built.
A VA lending focus
Mortgage Nerds is known for its work in VA home lending. NEXA’s announcement said the team will operate alongside Vetted VA as part of a network serving veteran borrowers, and referenced a shared aim of changing how VA loans are perceived among borrowers and agents.
Part of a broader consolidation
The addition follows NEXA’s acquisition of UMortgage in August 2026, after which executive partner Anthony Casa said his focus at the company would be mergers and broker roll-ups. NEXA passed 4,000 loan officers the same month.
